Equus: In Memory of the Horses

After dispatching the Commanche’s horses, Mackenzie’s troops stacked their remains into a mountain of bleaching bones as a symbolic warning. It stood as a warning in Tule Canyon for decades, until it was dismantled and sold off as fertilizer. (Photo Courtesy of Bill Mueller )
